Avellino Mayor Unveils New Council and Moves to Restore Historic Market

Mayor Nello Pizza presented Avellino’s new municipal cabinet on Monday, naming Anna D'Aliasi as vice‑mayor with responsibility for environmental and energy policies. The council includes nine assessors covering areas such as production and commerce, public works, culture and tourism, public administration, housing and urban safety, and social services. Pizza retained authority over urban planning and large‑scale infrastructure.

At the same time, assessor for commerce Ettore Iacovacci reported that the city’s bi‑weekly market, currently displaced to Campo Genova, will be moved back to its historic location at Piazzale degli Irpini. The temporary site has been deemed unsafe after two near‑accidents, and vendor numbers have fallen from over 170 to just 83. Iacovacci said the relocation will require health authority approvals but is a priority for revitalising the market’s economic role in the city.
