Avenida Brasil adaptations progress in Portugal and Brazil

Production is underway for new iterations of the popular telenovela ‘Avenida Brasil’ in both Portugal and Brazil.

In Portugal, SIC is developing a local adaptation scheduled for 2027. Program director Daniel Oliveira has begun assembling a cast, including Margarida Vila Nova as Carminha, Ricardo Pereira as Tufão, Laura Dutra as Nina, and José Condessa as Jorginho. The production aims to adapt the original story to Portuguese reality, such as replacing the original landfill setting with a junkyard.

In Brazil, Globo has commenced rehearsals for ‘Avenida Brasil 2’ at Estúdios Globo. Directed by Ricardo Waddington, the production is set to premiere in January 2027. The sequel takes place fourteen years after the original events, following Carminha as she attempts to reintegrate into the family and seek forgiveness. New cast members include Karine Teles and Ravel Andrade.
