Avenida Brasil sequel and remake announced

The iconic Brazilian telenovela ‘Avenida Brasil’ is seeing a resurgence through both its original broadcast and upcoming sequel. Actors Adriana Esteves and Murilo Benício have confirmed they will return for ‘Avenida Brasil 2’, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. The sequel will revisit the characters Carminha and Tufão, with Esteves noting the challenge of meeting audience expectations after 14 years.

International interest in the franchise is growing. The Portuguese broadcaster SIC is producing a local adaptation titled ‘Avenida Portugal’, starring Laura Dutra as the protagonist. Meanwhile, in Argentina, the rerun of the original series has achieved high viewership, prompting interest from Telefe and other international broadcasters in acquiring the rights to the upcoming sequel.
