AVI Global Plast implements food-grade rPET technology in India

Indian packaging manufacturer AVI Global Plast has implemented a new decontamination line from Starlinger Viscotec to produce food-grade rPET film. This is the first installation of this specific technology in India, designed to remove contaminants from post-consumer PET at a molecular level. The process allows the company to meet EFSA food-safety standards using 100% recycled PET without the need to blend in virgin material.

In addition to material improvements, AVI has introduced specialized produce packaging. Developed in collaboration with Norway-based Smart Packaging Industries AS, the Q-Bic berry punnet features a pyramid shape with 45-degree sidewalls. This geometry allows six punnets to form a cube, effectively doubling the shipping density per load compared to conventional packaging. The design also increases fruit visibility. AVI has also developed a patented, single-piece design specifically for avocados.
