AVI Global Plast implements food-safe rPET technology in India
Indian packaging manufacturer AVI Global Plast has implemented the deCON decontamination line from Starlinger Viscotec, marking the first installation of this technology in India for producing food-safe rPET film. The system removes contaminants from post-consumer PET at a molecular level, allowing the material to meet EFSA food contact standards. This enables the use of 100% recycled PET (rPET) for fruit and vegetable packaging without the need to mix in virgin material to pass migration tests.
In collaboration with Norway-based Smart Packaging Industries AS, AVI is also producing the Q-Bic berry punnet under license. The container features a unique pyramidal design with 45-degree side walls, allowing six units to combine into a cube. This geometry increases shipping efficiency by allowing twice as many punnets to be transported per load compared to conventional packaging, reducing the number of refrigerated trucks and containers required for exports. Additionally, the company has developed a patented single-piece design specifically for avocado packaging.
