Middle East airports implement new passenger experience and digital initiatives

Major aviation hubs in the Middle East are implementing new initiatives to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.

In Dubai, Dubai International Airport (DXB) has launched several programs to improve the arrival process. Dubai Municipality, in partnership with Dubai Airports and the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, has introduced the ‘Dubai Historic Doors’ initiative. This cultural experience recreates traditional architectural elements from neighborhoods like Al Shindagha and Al Fahidi to welcome travelers. Additionally, Dubai Customs has increased staffing and deployed digital tools like the iDeclare service to manage the post-summer travel surge, aiming to reduce customs processing times significantly.

In Saudi Arabia, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has commenced the first phase of its ‘Silent Airport’ project at Terminal 5. The initiative aims to create a more comfortable environment by reducing general public audio announcements and shifting flight information to digital screens, mobile services, and targeted gate announcements. This project is being introduced in stages to transition toward digital communication while maintaining essential information delivery.
