Avignon festivals draw record crowds and wrap up summer performances

The summer dance festival "On (y) danse aussi l'été !" in Avignon entered its final days, offering seven contemporary pieces until July 20. Organisers urged audiences to book quickly as the event drew to a close, highlighting its role in presenting intense, socially resonant choreography.

Meanwhile, the 60th edition of Festival Off Avignon reported a surge in attendance, with 75,000 tickets sold by mid‑July, up from 69,700 the previous year. Ticket sales reached 279,000, and the initiative provided 14,682 solidarity seats to broaden cultural access, of which 3,737 had already been used. The festival also hosted the third WYPPAM program, bringing together over fifty young performing‑arts professionals from 14 countries for training and exchange.

Both festivals underscore Avignon’s continued importance as a hub for live‑performance experimentation and community outreach in France.
