A wildfire ignited near Burgohondo in the province of Ávila has burned roughly 50,000 hectares, making it the biggest forest fire on record in Spain. The blaze is part of a larger complex that also involves fires in the Community of Madrid and the province of Toledo, together exceeding 77,000 hectares.

The disaster has affected about 90,000 people, with close to 60,000 evacuated or confined to their homes. No fatalities have been reported. Vice‑President and Minister for the Ecological Transition Sara Aagesen described the situation as "complex" and warned that further evacuations may be needed. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that a royal decree will be signed to declare the burned territories "gravely affected".

The response is coordinated by the Emergency Military Unit and regional agencies. The Confederación Hidrográfica del Tajo (CHT) has declared a Scenario 0 emergency for the Burguillo, Picadas and Charco del Cura reservoirs and increased water releases to aid fire control.
