AVM announces FritzOS updates and Matter smart home support
AVM is rolling out significant firmware updates for its FritzBox router lineup, focusing on FritzOS versions 8.25, 8.26, and the upcoming 8.50. These updates aim to enhance smart home automation, network visibility, and security.
A key development is the introduction of the Matter smart home standard. A laboratory version for the FritzBox 5690 Pro allows the device to function as a Matter bridge, enabling easier integration between Fritz devices and platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. This expands compatibility alongside existing DECT and ZigBee support.
Additional features in the new software iterations include a DNS filter designed to block advertisements, phishing attempts, trackers, and malicious websites. Users can also expect improved smart home routines—such as triggering actions via incoming phone calls or temperature changes—and enhanced network monitoring tools.
