Fritz!Box routers risk summer overheating; new firmware adds smart networking features

AVM’s Fritz!Box WLAN routers can exceed their recommended operating temperature of 0‑40 °C in hot weather. The device’s internal monitor marks a red warning line at 120 °C, and temperatures above the 40 °C threshold may cause performance throttling, Wi‑Fi drops, unexpected restarts or shutdowns. Users can view the last‑24‑hour CPU temperature in the Energy Monitor under System → Statistics.

To keep the router within safe limits, AVM advises placing the unit in a ventilated, shaded spot, keeping ventilation slots clear, avoiding direct sunlight, and not installing it inside cabinets, on carpets or near other heat‑generating devices. Regular dusting of the vents and, if necessary, using a small fan can further reduce heat buildup.

Separately, AVM released FritzOS 8.25 for the FritzRepeater 3000 AX and Mesh Set 1600. The update simplifies UI login when switching from the Fritz!Box to a repeater, adds an “intelligent networking” option that automatically re‑evaluates optimal repeater connections after network changes, and removes the need to restart the device when selecting language or country settings.
