AVM FRITZ!OS firmware updates and Matter bridge

Overview

In late September 2026, AVM continued its rollout of FRITZ!OS 8.50 and released updates for its repeater lineup. FRITZ!OS 8.26 was officially released for the Wi-Fi 7 supported FRITZ!Repeater 2700 and 1700. This update introduces “intelligent networking,” enabling mesh repeaters to independently re-evaluate whether a direct connection to a FRITZ!Box or a connection via another repeater provides better quality following restarts or network changes. It also adds single sign-on for user interfaces and simplifies initial setup.

New beta versions of FRITZ!OS 8.50 were released for seven models, including the FRITZ!Box 7630, 5690 Pro, 5690 XGS, 5590 Fiber, 6690 Cable, 6670 Cable, and 6660 Cable. The 7630 update specifically addresses Easybell mobile connection stability and network issues involving Amazon devices.

AVM has also begun the rollout of the major FRITZ!OS 8.50 update, starting with the FRITZ!Box 7690. This version features automatic detection and prioritization of high-demand activities like gaming and video conferencing. It includes a DNS filter to block advertising, tracking, and phishing, alongside ‘Smart Check’ in the MyFRITZ!App for monitoring internet, telephony, and smart home device status. Additionally, a failsafe feature for 4G and 5G mobile router models allows devices to switch automatically to a LAN connection if cellular stability fails.
