AVM releases FRITZ!OS 8.50 with smart home and security updates

AVM has released FRITZ!OS 8.50 as part of its ‘FRITZ! Labor’ testing program, introducing several new features for its router lineup. The update focuses on enhancing smart home capabilities, network security, and connectivity stability.

Key updates include the introduction of multi-trigger routines for smart home devices, allowing for more complex ‘if-then’ automation. For security, the software adds customizable DNS filters that can block access to websites known for phishing, malware, tracking, or excessive advertising across all connected devices, including smartphones, smart TVs, and IoT appliances.

To improve network management, the update features a ‘Smart Check’ diagnostic tool to identify connection issues and provides automatic prioritization for video conferencing to ensure stability during high network loads. The beta software is currently available for seven router models, including the FritzBox 5690, 7690, 7590 AX, 7590, 6690 Cable, 6670 Cable, and 6660 Cable.
