AVM releases new Fritz!Box firmware with migration aid and security enhancements
AVM has rolled out a new FritzOS 8.50 laboratory version for the FRITZ!Box 5690. The update adds a migration assistant that helps users transfer device settings when switching to a new router, a warning system for potentially unsafe port forwards, automatic prioritisation of video‑conference traffic, an SOS call feature for the FRITZ!Fon, and tighter child‑protection alerts. Smart‑energy sockets also receive overload protection.
In parallel, AVM is distributing FritzOS 8.25 to ten additional router models, including the 5690 Pro, 7632, 7630, 4690, 4060, 6860 5G, 6850 5G, 6850 LTE and 6825 LTE, while FritzOS 8.26 is being rolled out to the FRITZ!Box 7510 to fix a DSL‑speed throttling issue. These updates improve the online monitor, enhance mesh stability, add easier folder sharing via Fritz!NAS, and introduce a “Fritz! Failsafe” function that automatically switches to a backup connection when the primary internet link fails. Numerous bug fixes for Wi‑Fi‑7 compatibility, channel bandwidth and child‑protection are also included.
