AVM rolls out FRITZ!OS 8.50 update for routers

AVM is rolling out a major software update, FRITZ!OS 8.50, beginning with the FRITZ!Box 7690. The update introduces automatic detection and prioritization of high-demand activities, such as video conferencing and gaming, to ensure more stable connections within home networks.

Additional features in the new operating system include a DNS filter capable of blocking specific internet addresses to prevent advertising, tracking, and phishing attempts. The update also introduces ‘Smart Check’ via the MyFRITZ!App, allowing users to monitor the status of their internet, telephony, and smart home devices directly from their smartphone home screen.

Furthermore, mobile router models (4G and 5G) will receive a failsafe feature. This allows these devices to switch to a LAN connection automatically if the cellular connection becomes unstable or fails.
