Avocado Market Gains Momentum in U.S. Holidays and Australian Supply

U.S. shoppers bought 80.3 million avocados during the Big Game week, the highest volume since 2022 and a 10.7 % increase over the previous year. The Hass Avocado Board reported a total of 215 million units sold in the first quarter, generating $204.3 million in retail sales. Holiday periods such as Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day also recorded strong performance, with average selling prices falling to $0.93 per unit. “The first quarter illustrates the important role seasonal occasions play in driving avocado purchases,” said Alejandro Gavito, Director of Business Insights and Data.

In Australia, avocado production is rebounding sharply. Rabobank’s RaboResearch expects supply to reach a record 170,000 tonnes in the coming season, supporting exports that hit a record 18,400 tonnes in 2025. Queensland accounts for half of national output, followed by Western Australia. Abundant supply has helped keep retail prices low, near the historic $1 per avocado low reached in 2021, with a 5‑pack now priced at $7.50. Exports are focused on Asian markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, and are expanding into the Middle East.
