Avon, France: Schools lockdown following stabbings and gunfire
A series of violent incidents caused panic in the Butte-Montceau district of Avon, near Fontainebleau, in the Seine-et-Marne department. The unrest began around 10:30 a.m. near a shopping center close to Uruguay-France High School, where a fight broke out among several youths. During the altercations, a 17-year-old adolescent was wounded with a knife; he was treated at a hospital and is not in life-threatening condition.
Later in the afternoon, around 3:10 p.m., gunshots were reported near the same shopping center. Police discovered two bullet impacts on a shop's metal shutter. A witness reported seeing an individual with what appeared to be a long weapon, such as an assault rifle, firing into the air.
In response to the gunfire, police deployed intervention units to secure the area. As a safety precaution, three schools—Uruguay-France High School, Collège de la Vallée, and Groupe Scolaire de la Butte-Montceau—along with a nursery, were placed under lockdown.
