Violent incidents and shootings in France

Overview

In late September 2026, several violent incidents involving firearms and knives were reported across different regions of France.

On September 19, two separate shootings occurred. In Saint-Laurent de la Cabrerisse, a dispute over noise led to a confrontation involving a shotgun, resulting in four people being wounded by pellets. In Nantes, a 19-year-old man was shot in a building lobby in the Malakoff district, an area associated with drug activity; six individuals were subsequently arrested by the Brigade de Recherche et d’Intervention (BRI).

On September 22, violence erupted in the Butte-Montceau district of Avon. Following a fight among youths that left a 17-year-old wounded by a knife, gunshots were reported near a local shopping center. Witnesses reported seeing an individual with what appeared to be a long weapon, such as an assault rifle, firing into the air. This prompted police intervention and the lockdown of three schools and a nursery.
