AVP faction reviews manifesto on legal protections for Aruban politicians

The AVP parliamentary group in Aruba, led by Jennifer Arends-Reyes, has received a manifesto from Otmar Oduber regarding the legal protection of political officials. The document calls for greater legal safeguards for mandate holders in Aruba, seeking to align these protections with the standards currently applied in the Netherlands.

AVP representatives expressed concern that the current lack of legal equality creates a “dangerous wind” that could jeopardize the lives and careers of politicians. They argue that the rigor of ongoing investigations in Aruba can damage a person's reputation and career long before a definitive verdict is reached, potentially discouraging qualified professionals from entering public service.

The faction has requested that relevant ministers, including Geoffrey Wever and Arthur Dowers, prioritize this issue to ensure institutional stability and the rule of law. AVP stated they will evaluate the manifesto intensively to ensure that legal protections, public integrity, and accountability are balanced to maintain the stability of governance in Aruba.
