AVV to increase public transport fares and expand service area in 2027
The Augsburger Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (AVV) will implement a fare increase starting January 1, 2027. Prices for single trips, strip cards, and weekly or monthly passes will rise by an average of 3.4 percent. For adults, a single trip per zone will cost at least 2.20 euros, while children will pay 1.20 euros per zone.
AVV Managing Director Manuela Schaar stated that the adjustment is necessary due to rising costs for personnel and vehicles, noting that current fare revenues cover at most half of actual operating costs. The remaining expenses are subsidized by the city and surrounding districts.
Alongside the price hike, the AVV service area will expand to include the districts of Dillingen an der Donau and Donau-Ries. This expansion involves restructuring shareholder agreements and revenue distribution models. For the district of Aichach-Friedberg, the expansion and new distribution keys will result in a reduction of its share of regional bus costs from 36.54 percent to 26.64 percent.
