AWS adds R8i and M8g EC2 instances in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Mexico

Amazon Web Services announced that its new R8i and R8i‑flex instances are now available in the Europe (Milan) region. The instances use custom Intel Xeon 6 processors and claim up to 15% better price‑performance and up to 30% faster PostgreSQL, 60% faster NGINX, and 40% faster AI recommendation workloads compared with the previous R7i generation. R8i‑flex offers memory‑optimized sizes for workloads that do not fully use compute resources, while the R8i family includes 13 sizes, two of which are bare‑metal, and a 96xlarge size certified for SAP workloads.

In parallel, AWS introduced M8g instances in the Asia Pacific (Taipei) and Mexico (Central) regions. These instances are powered by Graviton4 processors, delivering up to 30% higher performance than Graviton3‑based M7g instances and offering up to three times more vCPUs and memory. They support up to 50 Gbps enhanced networking and 40 Gbps EBS bandwidth, with twelve size options including two bare‑metal configurations. The M8g line targets general‑purpose workloads such as application servers, microservices, gaming, and data stores.
