AWS launches Graviton5-powered M9g and M9gd EC2 instances

Amazon Web Services announced the general availability of its new M9g and M9gd EC2 instances, powered by the Graviton5 processor and unveiled at re:Invent 2025. The instances deliver up to 25% higher compute performance than the previous Graviton4 generation, with specific gains of 36% for ClickHouse workloads, a 60% reduction in HubSpot MySQL query times, and a 36% increase in Honeycomb observability throughput.

M9g and M9gd run on the sixth‑generation Nitro System, feature 192 cores, a five‑fold larger L3 cache, DDR5‑8800 memory, and support PCIe Gen6. The Nitro Isolation Engine provides the first formally verified cloud hypervisor for enhanced VM isolation. M9gd adds local NVMe SSD storage ranging up to 11.4 TB, delivering 30% higher IOPS. Both instance types offer approximately 15% greater network bandwidth and 20% higher Amazon EBS bandwidth, with the largest sizes seeing double network capacity. Availability spans US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon) and Europe (Frankfurt).
