AWS launches new EC2 G7 GPU and Graviton5 C9g/C9gd compute instances
Amazon Web Services announced the general availability of two new EC2 instance families. The G7 instances, powered by up to eight NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell GPUs, deliver up to 4.6× AI inference performance and 2.1× graphics performance over the prior G6 generation. They target workloads such as language translation, video and image analysis, speech recognition, real‑time graphics rendering, game streaming, video transcoding, spatial computing, and data‑analytics pipelines. G7 instances are offered in the US East (N. Virginia and Ohio) and US West (Oregon) regions with configurations supporting up to 192 vCPUs, 768 GiB memory, 7.6 TB NVMe storage and up to 700 Gbps networking.
In parallel, AWS introduced C9g and C9gd instances that run on the new Graviton5 processor. These compute‑optimized instances provide up to 25 % higher performance per vCPU than the previous C8g generation, feature DDR5 8800 MT/s memory, a five‑fold increase in L3 cache and a three‑fold boost in packet‑processing speed. They are available in 11 sizes up to 48 ×large, with the C9gd variant offering high‑performance NVMe local storage. Network bandwidth reaches 100 Gbps and EBS bandwidth 72 Gbps. The launch also includes the Nitro Isolation Engine, a formally verified security layer for strict resource isolation. The C9g/C9gd families are available in selected US and European AWS regions.
