Axel Kicillof inaugurates new UTOI police base in Florencio Varela
Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof inaugurated a new base for the Tactical Immediate Operations Unit (UTOI) in Florencio Varela. The facility, located in a central area of the municipality, will be staffed by 120 officers and 30 intermediate commanders to enhance crime prevention and emergency response capabilities.
During the event, which included Security Minister Javier Alonso and Mayor Andrés Watson, seven new police vehicles were also deployed for local patrolling. Kicillof emphasized that security policy must focus on territorial presence and prevention rather than just reacting to crimes after they occur.
Kicillof used the occasion to criticize the national government under Javier Milei for cutting resource transfers to the province. He stated that despite these cuts, the provincial administration continues to invest in technology, equipment, and personnel, noting that approximately 10,000 new patrol cars have been added during his administration.
