Axel Kicillof signals 2027 presidential ambitions at federal plenary

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof signaled his presidential ambitions for the 2027 elections during a federal plenary of the Movimiento Derecho al Futuro (MDF) held at the UTN in Villa Domínico, Avellaneda. Addressing an estimated crowd of 30,000 to 40,000 people, Kicillof stated, ‘Count on me so that next year there is an alternative to end this model,’ positioning himself as a national leader capable of offering a different economic and social path.

The event featured eleven thematic debate tables covering issues such as education, health, work, and security. Kicillof used the platform to launch a strong critique of President Javier Milei’s administration, describing the current economic situation as a ‘national tragedy’ that harms production, industry, and social stability. He emphasized that a viable political alternative must be built ‘from the bottom up’ through territorial organization rather than through closed-door agreements among elites.

The plenary also highlighted internal dynamics within the Peronist movement, serving as a demonstration of political strength amidst ongoing tensions. Kicillof called for a ‘true federalism’ that integrates all provinces into a common national project, asserting that the movement seeks to expand its influence beyond the province of Buenos Aires.
