By mid-September 2026, Peronist reorganization around Governor Axel Kicillof has gained momentum through his newly launched ‘Movimiento Derecho al Futuro’ (MDF). On September 18, Kicillof hosted the first Federal Plenary of the MDF at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional in Avellaneda. Under the slogan ‘Organizar la esperanza’, the gathering aimed to consolidate the movement on a national scale to serve as an alternative to the administration of Javier Milei. During the plenary, which drew over 30,000 participants, Kicillof emphasized a bottom-up organizational approach, rejecting political construction ‘via remote control’. He advocated for a broad alliance extending beyond the Peronist Party to include other opposition sectors. Kicillof explicitly signaled his 2027 presidential ambitions, telling supporters, ‘Count on me so that next year Argentina has an alternative.’

On September 21, Andrés Watson, the mayor of Florencio Varela, formally endorsed Kicillof’s candidacy. Watson criticized the Milei administration’s economic model as one of ‘planned poverty,’ noting that his local government is managing the social consequences of national policies, such as rising homelessness and job losses. He also highlighted a nearly 29 trillion peso debt owed by the national government to the Province of Buenos Aires.

On September 23, Margarita Stolbizer, leader of the GEN party, challenged Kicillof’s ambitions, stating he ‘is going nowhere’ due to internal Peronist resistance. Stolbizer cited a lack of support from former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and opposition from provincial governors as decisive obstacles, while also questioning Kicillof’s personal charisma and leadership qualities.

On September 27, the MDF expanded its reach with the launch of ‘Movimiento Derecho al Futuro MDF Paraná’. More than 200 militants and union leaders gathered in Paraná to establish an organizational structure to support Kicillof’s potential candidacy and called for the renewal of the Justicialist Party (PJ).
