Axel Witsel signs with OGC Nice

OGC Nice has officially signed Belgian international midfielder Axel Witsel to a one-year contract, which includes an option for an additional season. The 37-year-old joins the French Ligue 1 club as a free agent following his departure from Girona in Spain.

Witsel’s arrival is intended to bolster the Nice midfield, particularly following a long-term injury to Laurent Abergel, who suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament. The veteran midfielder, who has earned 140 caps for Belgium and previously played for clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Atlético Madrid, expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating he feels physically fit and mentally fresh.

Nice officials, including Sporting Director Roger Ricort, praised Witsel’s experience and leadership qualities. The club expects him to serve as a key figure in the dressing room as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
