Aydın Province Wildfires Prompt Evacuations and Calls for Citizen Water Tanker Support

Multiple wildfires broke out in Aydın Province, Turkey, in early July 2026. In Bozdoğan district, a fire that started around 13:30 in the Yazıkent neighbourhood spread rapidly due to strong winds, threatening residential areas. Authorities mobilised 28 fire trucks, 12 water tankers, 3 dozers on the ground and 8 helicopters plus 6 aircraft from the air. About 20 homes were prepared for evacuation and municipal buses were positioned to transport residents if needed. Bozdoğan municipality appealed to citizens with water tankers, urging them to “bring their tankers to the fire zone without delay.” The Aydın Metropolitan Municipality and forest services also assisted.

In nearby Didim district, separate land fires in the Yalıköy and Yeşiltepe neighbourhoods were quickly contained after fire‑fighting and forest crews responded. Didim municipality supplied additional water tankers, stating “Small negligence can cause big losses. Let us protect our nature together.” Both incidents were brought under control with no major casualties, highlighting the importance of coordinated local response and community involvement.

The fires illustrate the ongoing risk of wildland fires in Turkey’s dry, windy conditions and the reliance on both official resources and civilian assistance to protect lives and property.
