Aydın, Turkey Endures Record Heat as Temperatures Reach 47°C

Temperatures in the southwestern Turkish city of Aydın surged to 42 °C on the thermometers, with the heat‑index climbing to around 47 °C. The extreme conditions turned streets into ghost towns, prompting residents to seek relief in park shade and ornamental pools.

Local speakers described the heat as unprecedented. One visitor from Adana said, “Aydın’s heat feels cooler to me than back home,” while a Manisa resident complained, “We have never seen such scorching temperatures here.” University students noted the oppressive humidity, with one remarking that “the heat literally burns the body.” Health experts warned against staying outdoors during midday and indicated that the high temperatures are expected to persist for several more days.

The sweltering weather, far above the June average of 33.5 °C, has disrupted daily life, forcing many to stay indoors and rely on cooling measures such as air‑conditioning and water‑filled pools.
