Ayilamo community attack kills four police officers and residents in Benue

Suspected armed bandits launched a large-scale attack on the Ayilamo farming community in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. The assailants, estimated to number over 200, reportedly entered the area through Alufu Road from neighboring Taraba State.

During the invasion, which included shooting and setting houses ablaze, a detachment of Mobile Police officers engaged the attackers in a gun battle lasting several hours. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of four police officers and between seven and eight residents. The slain officers have been identified as ASP Paul Ina, Inspector Mohammed Yusuf, Inspector Oge Ikechukwu, and Inspector Edeh Andrew.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the violence, describing it as a threat to the state's stability. Meanwhile, the State Security Services (SSS) reportedly arrested three suspects in connection with the incident. This event marks the second time in a single month that mobile police officers have been killed during attacks in the Ayilamo community.
