ÇAYKUR pauses fresh tea purchases for one day to cut soaring stocks

Turkey’s state tea board, ÇAYKUR, announced a one‑day halt to fresh tea acquisitions on 9 June 2026. The move comes after the agency’s 49 processing plants recorded a stock of about 18 000 tonnes, exceeding its daily processing capacity of 9 250 tonnes.

ÇAYKUR explained the pause is intended to balance the intake of the season’s 149 000 tonnes of fresh tea, protect product quality and ease the workload on factories and growers. The agency reiterated that all tea harvested by producers will continue to be purchased under its guarantee once processing resumes.

The temporary suspension follows earlier short breaks on 4 June 2026 and 7 June 2025, which were also used to manage excess stock and maintain quality standards.
