Ayra Starr tops Billboard music poll with new album ‘Starrgirl’

Nigerian Afropop artist Ayra Starr has topped Billboard’s weekly new music poll with her third studio album, ‘Starrgirl’. The 16-track project secured over 87% of the fan vote, outperforming recent releases from artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Troye Sivan, and KATSEYE.

The album marks an artistic evolution for Starr, incorporating increased dance and R&B influences. The project features collaborations with artists including Zayn, Rema, Leon Thomas, and Danny Ocean, as well as the single ‘Tornado’.

In discussions regarding the album's inspiration, Starr noted that her time spent in New York played a significant role in her creative process. She described the music as an exploration of being ‘complete’ and expressed that the city allowed her to experience life beyond professional pressures.
