Overview

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr released her third studio album, ‘Starrgirl’, on August 14, 2026, through Mavin Records and Republic Records. To celebrate the release in Lagos, Nigeria, a purple firework display was held at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

On August 16, Starr topped Billboard’s weekly new music poll, securing over 87% of the fan vote and outperforming releases from artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Troye Sivan, and KATSEYE. Regarding the album’s creative process, Starr noted that her time in New York played a significant role, describing the music as an exploration of being ‘complete’ and an opportunity to experience life beyond professional pressures. This follows her recent recovery from major surgery, which she previously described as “more complicated than anticipated.”
