Ayrton Senna memorabilia set for record auctions
Significant items belonging to Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna are making headlines through high-profile auctions. RM Sotheby’s is preparing to auction the FW16 chassis number 01 in New York. This specific single-seater was the last car driven by Senna during 1994 winter testing and the Brazilian Grand Prix warm-up. Following a contract clause that granted the Senna family a car if Williams won the constructors' title in 1994, this chassis was preserved. It later served as a test and mule car for drivers including Damon Hill and David Coulthard.
In a separate record-breaking event, Senna’s personal 1991 Honda NSX sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction in London for approximately $1.17 million. The sale set a new world auction record for the NSX model, surpassing the previous record held by a Type R. The vehicle, which Senna used during his time in Portugal, featured a rare Formula Red paint scheme with a black roof and black leather interior.
