Ayurvedic Dhumapana practice gains wellness attention

Dhumapana, an ancient Ayurvedic practice involving the controlled inhalation of medicinal smoke, is gaining attention as a wellness trend. Unlike tobacco smoking, this traditional method uses specially prepared herbal formulations or medicated wicks to treat specific conditions.

According to practitioners, the practice is used to address issues involving the head, nose, and throat, such as sinus problems, colds, and throat irritation. It is also traditionally intended to balance the Vata and Kapha doshas in the body. The ingredients used in the smoke can vary by region and preference, often including substances like turmeric, neem, or guggul.

Actress and content creator Shenaz Treasury recently highlighted the practice after experiencing it at an Ayurveda clinic in Kerala. She noted that the process is distinct from cigarette smoking and is used for respiratory purification and mental relaxation.
