Azad Jammu and Kashmir PM bans JAAC, detains over 70 members

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore announced that his government will no longer negotiate with individuals he described as rioters. The announcement followed the official declaration of the Jammu‑Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) as a proscribed organization under the AJK Anti‑Terrorism Act.

At least 72 members of the banned JAAC were arrested, with authorities recovering weapons, communication devices and suspicious documents. The PM said the group’s elements are linked to supporters of the banned TTP and have repeatedly refused to engage in talks. JAAC, which has previously staged large‑scale protests over economic and political issues, is also demanding the abolition of 12 seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly reserved for refugees from Indian‑occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Rathore emphasized that while peaceful protest is a right, attempts to blackmail the state will not be tolerated.
