Azerbaijan and Slovakia expand defense and intelligence cooperation
Azerbaijan and Slovakia are expanding their defense and security cooperation through new industrial and intelligence agreements.
Slovakian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Robert Kalinak announced that a €210 million framework agreement for 100 automatic mine throwers is currently in its first phase. The partnership is structured around a three-stage technology transfer plan: the first third of production will occur in Slovakia, the second third will be split between both nations, and the final third will involve full production in Azerbaijan. Kalinak expressed interest in Azerbaijan’s advanced drone technology for potential future agreements.
Additionally, the Azerbaijani Parliament has approved an agreement between Azerbaijan and the Slovakian government regarding the exchange of classified information. Signed in Baku on July 8, 2026, the agreement establishes protocols for protecting sensitive data, including categories such as ‘specially important’, ‘top secret’, and ‘secret’. The pact mandates that information be shared only on a need-to-know basis and transmitted via approved cryptographic methods. Disputes regarding the agreement are to be resolved through consultations rather than international courts.
