Azerbaijan foreign debt drops 4.1% as July 2026 exchange rates are published

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan released its official foreign exchange rates for 31 July 2026, listing values for the US dollar, euro, Australian dollar and a range of other currencies.

The Ministry of Finance reported that Azerbaijan's external public debt fell by 4.1% year‑to‑date, reaching USD 4.617 billion (about 6% of projected 2026 GDP). The reduction stemmed from scheduled principal repayments of USD 233.4 million and a USD 20.4 million decline in the dollar‑denominated debt due to a weaker local currency. The debt‑to‑GDP ratio declined by 0.3 percentage points since the start of 2026.

Debt composition remains roughly split between variable‑rate (49.4%) and fixed‑rate (50.6%) obligations. Lenders include the Asian Development Bank (35.7% of the portfolio), eurobonds (30%), the World Bank (12.9%) and other multilateral institutions such as the Islamic Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
