Azerbaijani Delegation Visits Occupied Cyprus to Mark 52nd Anniversary of 1974 Turkish Invasion
A delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Kabansir Feizijiev, President of the Azerbaijan‑Northern Cyprus Friendship Parliamentary Group, arrived in the Turkish‑controlled north of Cyprus. They were received by Ziga Ozturkler, speaker of the self‑declared Turkish Cypriot parliament, and took part in events commemorating the "Day of Peace and Freedom," the anniversary of Turkey's July 20, 1974 military intervention.
During the reception, Ozturkler said Azerbaijan had shown strong participation in the celebrations and thanked President Ilham Aliyev and parliamentary speaker Saime Gafarova for their support. Feizijiev called the day a historic victory for Turkey, expressed pride in celebrating together, and stated that Turkish Cypriots are part of Azerbaijan and the wider Turkish world.
The visit underscores Azerbaijan’s political backing for Turkish Cypriots and serves as a symbolic reaffirmation of the alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkey amid ongoing regional tensions.
