Azerbaijani veterans reflect on the 44-day Karabakh War

Six years after the 44-day Patriotic War in Azerbaijan, veterans are reflecting on their experiences during the conflict to reclaim Karabakh territories.

Journalist Murad Shirinov, who served in the battles for the liberation of Fuzuli and Khojavend, shared his experiences of the intense combat. Having received five medals for his bravery and service, Shirinov recalled the loss of his team commander, Nicat Atayev, during the conflict.

Fakhri Jabrayilov, an anesthesiologist originally from the Lachin district, traveled from Turkey to Azerbaijan to volunteer for medical service at the front lines. Despite initial refusals due to his age, he was eventually accepted to assist with the shortage of specialists. Jabrayilov participated in medical efforts in areas including Aghdam and Gubadli, driven by a desire to return to his home region.
