Aziz İhsan Aktaş corruption trial reaches verdict stage

A verdict is expected in the high-profile trial involving the Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization, which is accused of organizing municipal tenders through bribery. The case, overseen by the Istanbul 1st High Criminal Court, involves 200 defendants, including several municipal leaders from various regions such as Beşiktaş, Adana, Seyhan, Ceyhan, Avcılar, and Esenyurt.

The investigation, which began with an operation on January 13, 2025, has spanned seven months and included 59 hearings. Prosecutors have requested significant prison sentences for the defendants. Aziz İhsan Aktaş faces requests for between 187 and 450 years in prison, while Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat faces requests for 86 to 234 years. Other municipal officials, including Zeydan Karalar and Oya Tekin, have faced requests for sentences ranging from 4 to 12 years for bribery-related charges.

During the trial process, 28 defendants were previously released. The court is scheduled to hear the final statements of the 200 defendants, including five currently in custody, before delivering its final judgment.
