Azizulhasni Awang agrees to pursue Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Malaysian track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang has agreed to continue his training and competition in pursuit of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The decision follows a period of controversy regarding his future plans.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari acknowledged that a communication breakdown occurred between the Ministry, the National Sports Council (MSN), and the athlete. He stated that the ministry takes responsibility for these gaps and aims to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.

The decision to support Azizulhasni’s mission was officially approved by the MSN board on August 13. Following the issuance of an offer letter, the athlete provided his formal agreement to continue serving the national squad.

Moving forward, officials plan to hold detailed discussions involving Azizulhasni, the national cycling association, MSN, and the National Sports Institute. These meetings will focus on determining the specific technical and logistical support required for his Olympic preparations.
