Azizulhasni Awang's Road To Gold status to be reviewed after 2026 Asian Games

The future of Malaysian track cycling champion Datuk Azizulhasni Awang regarding his participation in the Road To Gold (RTG) program will be reviewed following the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

RTG coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam stated that the selection process is phased and based on specific criteria. A post-mortem meeting will be held after the Asian Games to evaluate athlete performance and plan for the upcoming Olympic qualification year. Ramalingam noted that if Azizulhasni meets the established criteria, he hopes the athlete will be readmitted to the program.

Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, President of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (PKBM), emphasized the urgency of a decision. He noted that Azizulhasni needs to begin his Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification campaign immediately after the Asian Games, starting with the World Championships in Shanghai in October. PKBM is calling for government and National Sports Council support to ensure the athlete has the necessary technical and logistical preparation for his qualification journey.
