Azores Airlines privatization attracts eight investor groups

Eight investor groups have expressed interest in acquiring a majority stake in Azores Airlines as part of a privatization process. The state-owned parent company, Sata Holding, announced that the sale involves at least 75 percent of the highly indebted airline. This restructuring is a requirement imposed by the European Commission following state aid.

Sata Holding is currently reviewing qualification documents, financial reports, and compliance statements from the bidders. Those meeting the strict criteria will be invited to submit non-binding offers by September 21, 2026. The process aims to conclude by the end of 2026 through direct negotiations to ensure higher transaction security than previous attempts.

The Azores Airlines Workers' Commission has expressed a desire for more transparency regarding the eight interested parties. While acknowledging the need for confidentiality, representatives stated that current information remains vague and emphasized the importance of securing a stable future for the airline.
