SATA Group implements contingency plans amid strike threats

SATA Group is implementing contingency plans to mitigate operational disruptions caused by an upcoming public administration strike scheduled for October 2. To minimize impact, the airline is offering passengers the option to change inter-island flight dates without penalties or fare differences.

The Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) has mandated minimum services for flights between the Azores and Madeira, as well as connections to mainland Portugal, to ensure essential connectivity during the strike. Specific routes, including flights between Ponta Delgada, Funchal, Lisbon, and various islands in the Azores, must maintain a minimum level of service.

Separately, handling worker unions (SITAVA and SINTAC) have announced intentions for multiple strike periods. They are contesting the regional government's privatization plans, alleging that the decision to outsource ground handling services to a private operator threatens the financial stability of the regional airline, SATA Air Açores.
