Azores police fire warning shots after vehicle attack in Rabo de Peixe

Police in Rabo de Peixe, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, fired warning shots into the air after officers were attacked during a major narcotics operation. The incident occurred as police were leaving the scene following the arrest of eight suspects for drug trafficking.

According to the Regional Command of the PSP of the Azores, a crowd threw stones and wooden beams at the officers, damaging four police vehicles. To stop the attacks, officers discharged six warning shots. No injuries were reported among the police or bystanders.

The operation, conducted at the fishing port of Rabo de Peixe, resulted in the seizure of 962 doses of hashish and 1,110 doses of cocaine, along with an unspecified amount of cash. The Ponta Delgada Police Division is working to identify the perpetrators; two suspects have already been identified.
