Drug trafficking investigations in the Azores

Overview

Law enforcement operations targeting narcotics trafficking on the island of São Miguel in the Azores have resulted in multiple arrests and seizures.

In Rabo de Peixe, a major narcotics operation led to the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of 962 doses of hashish and 1,110 doses of cocaine. During the operation, a crowd attacked officers with stones and wooden beams, damaging four police vehicles and prompting officers to fire six warning shots. No injuries were reported.

In a separate investigation in Ribeira Grande, two men aged 43 and 65 were placed in preventive detention. Authorities seized heroin, synthetic drugs, and packaging equipment during home searches. A 32-year-old woman was also detained on an outstanding warrant for theft during the operation.
