Azores Rallye: 59th Volta à Ilha de São Miguel announced

The 59th Volta à Ilha de São Miguel – By Azores Rallye is scheduled for September 4 and 5. During a presentation at the São Miguel Park Hotel in Ponta Delgada, organizers revealed plans to return the event to major national and international stages.

The race will maintain a similar format to the 2025 edition, covering 454 kilometers with 103.09 kilometers of timed stages across ten classifications. The only significant change to the route is a double pass in the Urban Park Super Special. The event is currently a candidate for integration into the Portuguese Rally Championship (CPR) for the 2027 season, with evaluations pending from the Portuguese Automobile and Karting Federation (FPAK).

Luís Pimentel, president of Grupo Desportivo Comercial (GDC), expressed ambition to see the rally return to the European Championship in the future. However, organizers noted a lack of support from the Azores Regional Government, criticizing the reduction in institutional investment despite the event's high economic and tourism returns. The rally currently maintains the support of six local municipalities in the Micaelense region.
