Azores welcomes NRP Sagres open days and 107th Maritime Police anniversary celebrations

The Portuguese Navy’s training ship NRP Sagres was opened to the public on the island of Terceira at Praia da Vitória from 9‑12 August and later in Ponta Delgada from 13‑17 August. Visitors could tour the vessel, attend cultural events such as the play “Os sonhos do Infante” and participate in round‑table discussions at the Festival Utopia. The ship, which left Lisbon on 30 April after calls in the United States and Bermuda, carries a crew of 107 personnel, 77 naval cadets and a Romanian cadet.

From 5‑13 September, Ponta Delgada will host the 107th anniversary of the Portuguese Maritime Police. The programme includes operational demonstrations, free public activities, environmental clean‑ups, a concert by the Sinfonietta of Ponta Delgada, baptisms at the marina, regattas, and a colloquium on the Azores’ Marine Protected Areas network. The celebrations culminate on 13 September with an official ceremony, a parade of police vessels and personnel, and a mass at the city’s main church.
