B Nagendra permitted to travel within India by Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court has modified the bail conditions for Cabinet Minister B Nagendra, allowing him to travel anywhere within India. Justice M Nagaprasanna ruled that Nagendra’s current ministerial role, which includes the Planning and Statistics portfolio, necessitates travel beyond the state of Karnataka to discharge official duties.

While the court quashed a previous restriction that barred him from leaving the state without prior permission, it maintained that Nagendra must still obtain permission from the trial court before traveling outside of India.

Nagendra is an accused in the alleged Valmiki Corporation scam, a case involving the suspected illegal diversion of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. The funds were intended for the welfare of Scheduled Tribe communities. The investigation is being conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
