B236 closure in Plettenberg sparks traffic chaos concerns

From Monday 13 July 2026 the B236 in Ohle, Plettenberg will be fully closed for five months while Enervie upgrades electricity and data lines. The closure coincides with ongoing construction on the Gringel bridge, prompting local residents and officials to warn of severe traffic disruptions for motorists, buses and emergency services.

Critics say the detour signage was installed too late and that stop‑zone placements are inadequate. The city says a temporary traffic‑light system will be adjusted on site to manage flow, and that any persistent problems may lead to shifting work to quieter holiday periods. Officials expect traffic to settle after an initial adjustment period.
